Using Smaller Plates Can Promote Rapid Weight Loss

Here’s an interesting way to help you lose weight quickly and this is through the use of smaller plates! According to a study that was conducted at Cornell University, smaller plates can actually lead people to eat less because it helps them eat mindfully. A psychologist named Brain Wansink was the one who conducted the study. He proved that it is the people’s eyes that control the amount of food that they eat. This is contrary to what others believe because most people think that their stomachs are the ones dictating the quantity of food that they eat.

When the study was conducted, the participants were divided in two groups. The first group consisted of individuals who ate from “bottomless bowls”. This means that their bowls had a portion at the bottom that can be refilled without their knowledge. On the other hand, the second group used regular bowls and not those that had refilling areas. The results showed that the bottomless bowl group ate more food than those who ate from regular bowls. What Wansink found from the study was that if one practices mindless eating, then that person is more likely to gain weight. If one is aware of what he is doing, the less he eats thus achieving weight loss.

Aside from that, mindless eating would also promote eating habits that are unhealthy. To remedy this problem and promote weight loss instead of this, one must use a smaller plate when eating meals to decrease the consumption of food. Moreover, Wansink also said that one must keep unhealthy foods far from sight to prevent one from being tempted to eat them. In addition, he also suggested that it is better to dine together with people than to eat while watching television. What is the reason behind this? It is because people tend to eat more when they are less aware of what they’re doing. For this reason, it is really good to use smaller plates when eating because it does not only change one’s eating habits but it also changes a person’s mindset.
