Did you know that depriving your body of sleep can make you gain weight? This is what a recent study has discovered. How did this come to be? Based from the study that was conducted by Marie Pierre St-Onge, individuals who slept less are not able to absorb the right amount of energy that their body needs. What does this mean? It means that people who are deprived of sleep are more likely to gain weight than those who get enough sleep everyday.

How did they come to this conclusion? What the conductor of the study did was that, she gathered male and female participants who are aged 30-40 years old. These individuals who had normal body weight were made to stay in the research center during the duration of the study. What the researchers did was that they created 2, five night periods and re-scheduled the eating and sleeping habits of the participants. During this time, they checked if sleeplessness and weight gain really had a connection. During the first half of 5-night periods, the participants were made to get 9 hours of sleep.

On the second half of 5-night periods, the participants were made to sleep for 4 hours only. As for their food, the participants were made to follow 4 days of strict dieting and 1 day of eating lavishly during the 2, five night periods. After the study was done, the results showed that people who were deprived of sleep took in more calories than those who had enough sleep. For this reason, it has been concluded that sleeping habits can really affect a person’s weight. The major key to ultimate weight loss is proper sleep and healthy eating habits. If one would only get enough sleep daily, the faster will that person lose weight.
