In every diet and weight loss program, it is interesting to note that the diet itself is not the big problem. It is actually the person’s personal motivation factor that causes so many people to drop out part way or half-way. Why does this happen? For many, the new exercise and diet patterns are just too hard to maintain. Having a stressful job can make it hard to stay focused on your diet or it may be your lifestyle. This is why even before you start any diet, it is important to have a motivation plan.

Everybody has a reason to go on a weight loss program. For some, it might be the risk of health problems. For others, it may be part of a self-esteem booster plan. Whatever these reasons are, it can be easy to lose sight of them when the dieting starts to grow hard, so it is important to make a list of the reasons to shed weight and stay healthy. Be honest and brutal in listing these reasons. If bad eating habits will lead to a heart attack in just two years, note that down. Keep a copy of these reasons in danger areas like the fridge or kitchen cabinets. If there is a tendency to order fast food over the phone, keep a copy next to the phone as well.

It can also be helpful to carry a list around with you, in case you are tempted while at work or at the grocery store. You can also use images and symbols for the reasons in plain view. For example, keep a sexy dress hanging next to the mirror, where it can be seen every day. When actual lists do not seem effective, keeping these pictures in view can be very motivating to stay on the weight loss program.

One of the most important and often overlooked aspects in every program to lose weight is to reward oneself. Embarking on any diet or exercise program is not an easy thing and it involves a lot of hard work mentally and physically. Once certain milestones have been achieved, it is important for that person to enjoy certain rewards. This could be a relaxing day at the spa, buying a new dress, or just lazing around for a day. By enjoying the rewards after shedding some gained weight, it makes it that much more motivating to work towards the next reward.
