Research Reveals that Flaxseed Can be Used as Protection from Radiation
Based from one study, flaxseed can protect people from radiation. How is this so? This is because US researchers said that they have the ability to shield organs and tissues against radiation effects. Aside from that, another study proved this claim because its researchers discovered that when mice were given a flaxseed diet, their lung tissues became protected before they were exposed to radiation. In addition, the damage that was caused by radiation to the mice was also reduced after they were exposed to it, Principal investigator Melpo Christofidou Solomiduo said.
Furthermore, there were other experiments that were conducted to prove this claim. According to an experiment conducted by researchers, one group of mice was given a diet that consisted of 10% flaxseed. This was done 3 weeks before they were exposed to a dose of radiation. On the other hand, another control group was also given the same dose of radiation and similar diet. However, their diet was given an isocaloric control and did not have flaxseed supplement in it. After four months, the study was published in the Journal Cancer.
This is what they have found. Mice who were flaxseed fed had a higher survival rate for many of them survived radiation exposure. But those who were not given the flaxseed supplement only had very few survivors. Moreover, they have also discovered that mice that had a flaxseed diet had better survival rates because their blood oxygenation levels increased, their body weight became higher, their pro-inflammatory cytokine levels became lower and their fibrosis and pulmonary inflammation were also decreased. Clearly, flaxseed is really a good protection against radiation so if you haven’t tried drinking flaxseed supplement yet, better try it now and see the results for yourself!
