Introducing lumps and textures
From between the ages of 7 and 9 months, you can start to introduce lumpier purées and finger foods, such as chunks of banana or well-cooked carrot sticks. You can also offer bread, pasta, and couscous.
As you introduce textures, let your baby feed himself with his fingers or a spoon if he likes – the more control he feels he has, the more he’ll enjoy the experience.
When your baby has happily accepted lumps and finger foods, you can introduce chopped foods rather than purées. As a general rule, from around the age of 9 months your baby can eat small unsalted portions of your meals. Encourage him to feed himself and sit at the table with the rest of the family.
