It’s really difficult to proceed with your diet if you’re constantly haunted by your food cravings! If this has always been your problem, then don’t worry because there are ways on how you can beat those cravings. Do you want to know what they are? If so, then let’s learn about them.

  • Address your nutritional deficiency. – According to diet experts and nutritionists, some people crave for certain foods because of a nutritional deficiency. If you are craving for chocolate most of the time, then you might have a magnesium deficiency. However, if its chromium that you lack then you’ll crave for sweets. Is there a way to solve this problem? All you have to do is to keep healthy levels of zinc in your diet in order for your appetite to be regulated. To avoid nutritional deficiencies, it is best to eat various types of nutritious foods.
  • Don’t fight your cravings. – Based from a study that is published in the Journal Appetite, most dieters are craving for foods that they usually avoid. If you are usually craving for cake, then go ahead and have some. Just make sure that you eat little of it. Follow the 80/20 rule which is eating healthy 80% of the time and being less strict on your diet 20% of the time.
  • Exercise is a great distraction. – Too tired to exercise? Don’t give in to your laziness. Instead, find some time to go to the gym or have a good run around the block. Exercise is known to suppress one’s appetite according to a study that was conducted by a researcher at the Loughborough University. Aside from that, moving around and getting active also makes you feel great about your body so you will surely be motivated not to destroy your efforts with food cravings.
  • Pick healthy snack alternatives. – Just because you are dieting, it doesn’t mean that you’re not allowed to eat snacks. What you just need to do is explore healthy alternatives for your snacks. If you are craving for salty food, why not replace it with low-fat popcorn? If you feel like eating ice cream, substitute it with sorbet or yogurt. Instead of eating French fries, consider replacing them with sweet potato wedges. By doing so, you’ll still be able to taste something similar to what you craved for thus beating out the cravings.
