If you like to drink cold water then you should read this article. It feels good to have a cup of cold drink after eating but cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you’ve just consumed. It slows down your digestion and once this sludge reacts with acid, it will then break down and the intestine will absorb it faster than the solid food. It will then line the intestine and very soon it will turn into fats and lead to cancer. The best thing to do after a meal is to drink warm water or hot soup.

Ah, the sweet taste of fresh berries! Berries are actually good for you and contain plant nutrients called anthocyanidins. These are incredible antioxidants and some have high levels of resveratrol, which helps fight heart disease and cancer. The next time you want something sweet, juicy, and good for you, reach for blueberries, grapes, or strawberries, and do not feel guilty!

Recent studies from the National Cancer Institute and other research institutions suggest that over 20% of all cancer is related to overweight or obesity. For years, researchers have commented that certain forms of cancer with a link to hormones (for example, breast and endometrial cancer in women, prostate cancer in men) are associated with weight gain, overweight, and obesity. As summarized in a government report on overweight and obesity, obesity increases the risk of breast cancer after menopause because body fat produces the hormone estrogen. Even weight gain not to the point of obesity can be a problem: gaining more than 20 pounds between age 18 and midlife doubles a woman’s breast cancer risk. The risk of colon cancer and other gastrointestinal tract cancers that do not appear to have a connection to hormones also goes up as one’s weight increases.

Exercising Stress Away

exercise

Two forces are at work against us when we don’t get enough exercise. First is the fact that human beings were built to be in motion. We evolved as hunter-gatherers, not as couch-sitting television watchers. Our systems were meant to be used by a physically active body. When that body is constantly sedentary, our systems do not perform at peak capacity and waste products are not eliminated as efficiently as they should be.

The second force that is at work against us is our body’s natural fight-or-flight response. Our stress hormones were designed to help us defeat stressors in the form of physical threats to our safety or else run away from them. Today, our stressors are more often psychological than physical—but the production of stress hormones remains the same. They are not dissipated through fighting or fleeing; instead, they continue to circulate through the body, wreaking havoc on our cells.

Regular exercise is the best way to remove these toxic byproducts of the stress response. As long as it is not overdone, exercise relieves everyday stress, enhances immune system function, boosts circulation, and improves our ability to get a good night’s rest (of primary importance, since we know that most cellular repair takes place while we sleep). One other note on sleep: a fascinating study has recently been completed showing the importance of sleeping in total darkness for many health reasons, including breast cancer reduction. It was found that women who worked night shifts, such as nurses and flight attendants, had a 60% higher rate of breast cancer. The research, conducted at the National Cancer Institute and National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, revealed a disquieting finding: Exposure to light during the hours of sleep appears to aggressively promote breast cancer by shutting off the production of melatonin, a hormone produced by the pineal gland. This hormone, which is naturally produced by the body during the hours of darkness, is known to be a strong immune system booster. Its presence also impedes the growth of cancer tumors by as much as 80%, according to research findings.

Eat Broccoli, Prevent Cancer

broccoli

Food plays a critical role, for both good and bad. New research continues to unlock the secrets of how foods (and nutritional supplements) influence every aspect of our physical and mental well-being or lack thereof. A quick example is the following:We have all been told that broccoli and the cruciferous vegetables help prevent cancer. But until now, we didn’t know how or why.

In an outstanding example of cellular rejuvenation, a study conducted at Georgetown University and reported in the British Journal of Cancer found that indole-3-carbinol, a chemical in vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, and cabbage, actually boosts DNA repair in cells and may stop them from becoming cancerous. This is a critical finding because DNA is the material inside the nucleus of cells that carries genetic information. If we are genetically predisposed to cancer, could this mean that we can repair our cells and thus prevent cancer simply by eating broccoli? It is certainly a fascinating premise, and scientists are ardently pursuing this line of study.

According to Professor Eliot Rosen, who led the research, “it is now clear that the function of crucial cancer genes can be influenced by compounds in the things we eat: Studies that monitor people’s diets and their health have found links between certain types of food and cancer risk. Our findings suggest a clear molecular process that would explain the connection between diet and cancer prevention.” As we’ve learned, carotenoids also show powerful chemoprotective properties. Do try to always buy organically grown vegetables—the pesticides and chemical fertilizers used on nonorganically grown vegetables may counteract the positive effects of these foods.
