Bulking and Cutting
If you’ve spent much time in a gym, you’ve heard of this approach. The idea is to spend a few months bulking up by lifting weights, doing no cardio, and eating lots of calories and then cutting up by reducing calories. Let me tell you, in my opinion, it’s the biggest fallacy in the world and basically just an excuse to find comfort in overeating. For starters, it seems like no one ever reaches the cutting stage. You see all these big guys gorging themselves during the winter in their “bulking phase,” but then summer comes and they’re still gorging! Even the guys who do cut up often don’t see the results they were after. They somehow think the muscle fairy is going to preserve all the lean mass they built and only get rid of the fat.
Some that tried bulking and cutting only got fatter. Their body was naturally shaped like a bowling pin—narrow shoulders, long skinny arms, long skinny legs, and a big wide middle. When they bulked up, they just became a bigger bowling pin.

Ha! I agree with you. This even sounds rediculous. Why do so many people have to go for the “miracle” fads, why can’t they just stay with the basics?
When I first started working out in my teen years this was the first approach I tried. It didn’t work for me at all. Thankfully I’ve learned better eating habits since then. Love your bowling pin analogy though
