Black Eye
A discoloration and swelling over the eye usually caused by trauma, bruising the tissue around the eye. Most black eyes heal completely and do not cause any damage to the eye.
Treatment may include cold compresses for the first 24 hours, followed by warm compresses after the first 24 hours until the swelling stops. The child’s head should be raised to help decrease the amount of swelling. It is normal for the swelling and bruising to spread down the cheek or to the other eye.
