Bananas are usually considered to be excellent exercise snacks despite the fact that they have been branded as fruits that are not ideal for dieters. Although they have a poor reputation, health experts still recommend them because they aid in the digestion process, have low glycemic index, helps burn fat easily and they contain a lot of insoluble resistance starch.

They are best eaten before hitting the gym or during breakfast. Still wondering why bananas can help a lot in loss of weight? Arnav Sarkar, a strength and fitness coach together with Vinata Shetty, Reebok master trainer shares with us why these fruits help people lose weight.

Question #1: Do you consider bananas as natural foods for losing weight?

Arnav Sarkar – Even if bananas are considered to help individuals shed off some pounds, eating them alone does not mean that one can already achieve total weight loss. These fruits should only be a part of one’s diet. So that an individual can lose more weight, that person must not consume more calories than what he can burn daily.

Vinata Shetty: Just like other foods, one must eat bananas at the acceptable level. This means that one must not consume several bananas daily because a piece of it already has 90 calories in it. What’s good about them though is that they are rich in vitamins, fiber, energy, minerals and carbohydrates.

Question #2: Are bananas ideal to eat before going to the gym?

Arnav Sarkar: The answer is yes. These fruits can provide you with the energy that you need for workout because they have natural sugars in them.

Vinata Shetty: Yes, you can take them before working out. This is because aside from having lots of energy, bananas also have enough carbohydrates that you will need for such strenuous activity.

Question #3: Are bananas good to eat during breakfast? Any suggestions on what foods can be eaten together with bananas?

Arnav Sarkar: Yes, they are excellent for breakfast. I would call it a good breakfast if oatmeal, eggs and milk are combined with bananas.

Vinata Shetty: You can actually have bananas alone for breakfast. However, if you are not used to it, try adding them to your favorite yogurt or combine them with skimmed milk.

Question #4: What do you think about the Morning Banana Diet?

Arnav Sarkar: Having bananas for breakfast is not really a bad thing especially if you compare them to donuts and coffee. However, this is not considered to be the best kind of diet. Trying out other fruits and combining them with bananas can also speed up the weight loss process.

Vinata Shetty: I do support this type of diet. This is because bananas are full of potassium, magnesium, iron, calcium, minerals and nutrients. For this reason, they are really ideal to eat during breakfast.
